Blast - Monday's Meeting - November 9, 2020

Lots of reminders below but we are trying to keep it to just one Blast.

The Drive Through has been renamed to Stop, Swap and Shop.   With winter upon us we wanted to continue to have the drive through for those that do not feel comfortable coming to the meetings but we are making some changes.  We will be setting up tables just inside the sliding glass doors at Manna.   A diagram is attached.   The diagram shows Dottie inside for the Pizza Box swap but weather permitting, she will be outside under the overhang.   Think of it like going to the grocery store, going in for a few things, grab them and back to the car.  If you really cannot come inside, park in one of the 4 handicap parking spaces to the south of the overhang and someone will come to you.

A diagram has been attached to show the layout in the lobby.

The Greeting Table will be moved from the lobby to the large room where the meetings are held.  They will be on the left as you come in the door.  Diane will have a basket for you to drop your dues in.  It would helpful if you put them in an envelope but if you don’t one, she will have some.

The 20/20 dues are due.  To take advantage of the discount, they must be paid by November 9.

$20.00 for renewing members and $30.00 for new members.  If mailing, they should be sent to Diane Cox.  They can be dropped off at the greeting table.

Guild Projects: The monthly Fat Quarter Raffle starts this month.  Batiks will be collected.  You will get a ticket for every FQ you bring and at the end of the business meeting we will draw for the winner.  You can also get in the raffle if you are only doing the Stop, Swap and Shop.

Lynn also has copies of the Sunflower pattern for the challenge.  Stop in and sign up and pick up your pattern.  Remember, you can do it any way you want.  Fabric, paint, any embellishments.  Just make it your own vision!  It is to be finished at 15” x 15”.

The Holiday Party this year will be a little different.   We have decided we will not have refreshments but you are free to bring your drink and a snack if you wish for yourself.

In place of refreshments, we are going to have a little gift bag for those that attend, or do the Stop, Swap and Shop.  However, you must RSVP.  Let us know by telling them at the greeting table this month when you check in for the meeting or email Nancy [nansols@comcast.net], or call or Text Nancy at 816-517-1627.  Be sure to identify yourself if you text.  RSVP not later than November 15.

We are collecting non-perishable food items for Manna’s food pantry this year.  They are in need of canned fruits.  We will collect these items if you wish to donate at the November and December meetings.  We will have a box in the lobby directly across from the double doors below the hand sanitizing table.

We would also like you to bring your favorite Christmas quilt or hand made Christmas item for a special show and tell.   If you don’t have a favorite, that’s okay too.

The Fat Quarter raffle for December will be holiday fabrics.

Snow Days and guild cancelation:  When Lee’s Summit school buses aren’t running, our meetings will be cancelled.  We will also send a blast should this happen.

Outreach is still in need of any and all cotton fabric you would like to donate.  It takes a lot of fabric for a quilt especially backing.  Please check in your stash and consider donating fabric that you bought a while ago and now don’t know what to do with it.

Ways and Means have the following items for sale:

Binding needles- $3

Yarn needles- $1

1 Misting bottle- $9

Best Press- $13

Ruler arrows- $7

45MM Olfa Blades- $20

Hugo tape:  1/2" ($6) and 1" ($8)

Bohin super needle threader- $16

LSQG News and Virtual Bee - Monday, July 20, 9:00 - 4:00

Hi all!

I’m sure a lot of you already heard, but I wanted everyone to know that our Guild trailer was stolen last Sunday in the early morning!  The contents were dumped in Kansas City.  One of the residents by there sent the Guild a Facebook message and asked if we had dumped our stuff there.  By the time we were able to get there only about 1/3rd of the PVC pipes we use to hang the curtains were left.  People in the neighborhood came by and helped themselves to what was dumped!

A police report was filed and we have also filed a claim with the insurance company.  I put together a committee to make plans going forward on replacing our stolen items.  We will have a report for you in August.  I guess if you want to put a positive spin on this at least we had already cancelled our Quilt Show!

I don’t know about you but I sure could enjoy some time visiting with my quilting friends so let’s have a Virtual Bee!  Since we can’t use the Duck Pond yet, I have set up a Zoom get together on Monday, July 20th during our regular Bee time – 9:00 AM until 4:00 PM.  Even though we can’t physically be together we can sew together!  You can log on and stay all day or you can come and go as you please.  It would be nice if we could all stop sewing at 11:00 and show each other what we are working on and visit a little while.  Maybe we can even eat lunch together?  If you aren’t familiar with Zoom or online “meetings” this would be a great way to give it a try.

Below is a link where you can register to join us.  Just click on the link and fill out the requested information.  Sunday night I will send everyone who registers a reminder email with all the information you will need to join.

If you have any trouble getting logged in please call or text me at my cell phone number listed in the membership book and I will try to help you.

I hope you will consider joining us, even if you just drop in to say hi and visit a little while.  It will be great to see everyone there!

I hope to see you on Monday,

Edwina Smith

Drive Thru July 13th at First Baptist in LSMO

Hello Quilters!

There is a lot of information here to keep you up to date, so please read everything!

Reminder!!!  Our Drive-Thru is this coming Monday, July 13th at 9:00 AM at

First Baptist Church of Lee’s Summit

2 NE Douglas Street

Lee’s Summit, MO  64063

I know there is construction there and there are signs that say no through traffic, but you can drive around the sign to enter the parking lot that is behind the church off of Maple Street.  There will be signs for you to follow.

The following will be available at the Drive-Thru:

Pizza Box Parade

Community Outreach (Items available are Pillowcase kits, Bosom Buddies kits, Fidget Mat kits, Quilt top kits to piece, Quilt tops to quilt, Quilt tops to hand sew the label and binding on the back)

Little Sisters of the Poor

Quilts of Valor

Drop off President’s Gift

Quilt Show Boutique

Ways & Means (Binding Needle $3.00; Misting bottles $9.00; Best Press $13.00; Ruler Arrows $ 7.00; Hugo Tapes: 1” $8.00 and ½” $6.00; Olfa rotary blades: 45 mm $20.00 and 60 mm $30.00; Bohin Super Needle Threader $16.00)

Quilt Show – We discussed the Quilt Show at the Board Meeting on July 6th and your Board voted to cancel the show for 2020 because of the Covid-19 Virus.  Even if we could have access to the church, we were concerned for the health of everyone involved.  We anticipated attendance to be down and we were concerned we would have a hard time finding enough volunteers.  Nancy Solsberg will be accepting handmade items that would have been sold at the boutique at this Drive-Thru, but it will be the last time.  We are considering our options on what do with the Boutique items we have already collected and I will communicate details as soon they become available.  If you donated an item for the Silent Auction and would like it back, please contact Cathy Wight to make arrangements.

Bee – The Bee scheduled for July 20th will be on Zoom instead of The Duck Pond!  I will set up a “meeting” on Zoom from 9:00 – 4:00 and we can all sew at our own homes, but with each other!  Details will be sent out next week.  I hope you will consider giving Zoom a try.  This will be a great way try out Zoom and enjoy a day spent with friends.

This has been a very difficult time for everyone and we have been working hard to keep things going with Guild even though we haven’t been able to meet like usual.  Please watch for more information to come next week.  To make sure you haven’t missed anything subscribe to the Blog!  Information on how to subscribe was in the last newsletter.

I hope to see you all on Monday!

Edwina Smith, President

Hello Quilters!

Our regularly scheduled Bee for Monday, June 15th is moving, at least for this month. We will only be working on Community Outreach projects. Unfortunately there will not be any Quilts of Valor or open sewing this month!

The management at Raintree still hasn’t given us the go ahead to use the Duck Pond. We are in great need of getting some quilt tops kitted up with backing and batting so they are ready to be quilted. We will be meeting at 9:00 AM at

Manna Fellowship Church
17324 S. Route 291
Pleasant Hill, MO 64080

My church is just 5 minutes further south of the 150 exit off 291 South. Going south on 291 the church is on the right just before you get to the 58 Hwy stoplight. I know this isn’t the ideal situation but at least we will be able to meet and get more Community Outreach quilts ready for July.

I will be bringing the Community Outreach tops, backing & batting along with an iron and ironing board. If I have room I will bring a large cutting mat and cutter, but we could probably use 1 more. We will need at least 1 sewing machine to sew backings together. If you are planning to come and can bring some of the needed items, please email me at eddiesong@hotmail.com or call me at 816-739-6745 so I make sure we have everything covered that we need.

Thank you for continuing to work on projects to bless our Community even though we haven’t been meeting. Rosanna Smith took a trunk full of quilts to the Salvation Army Children’s Shelter this week and I know they were greatly appreciated.

Please come and help us if you can. The more help we have the quicker we will get done. Bring a lunch too just in case it takes us longer than 3 hours!

Hopefully we will be able to get back to some semblance of normal soon!

Edwina Smith
